@Marvel: Dear Russo Brothers, you done #Hulk dirty.

Posted on Updated on

I can’t take credit for my post title. It was actually my son who made this comment after the movie. I just borrowed it. Anyway, I don’t think I need to make this a lengthy post to get my point across.
After 2 subpar solo #hulk movies, the #avengers finally got the Hulk right with #Ragnarok also adding to the awesomeness that is the hulk. Then the Russo brothers happened and with the snap of their fingers they wrecked everything about the hulk. And they did it without the gauntlet.
I sat through a 2hr40min infinity war movie only to see a couple minutes worth of the hulk early on getting his ass kicked by thanos.
To say I came out of that movie dismayed is an understatement. I rationalized it in that hulk had alot of on screen time in ragnarok and I was totally convinced he would get his payback in endgame. That didn’t happen. The rumours were confirmed and in endgame, hulk became Professor Hulk. I will be honest I didn’t know what to make of it. It was weird hearing Ruffalo’s voice in the body of the Hulk. What I also didn’t expect was the nonsense that came along with him being professor Hulk.

If I was dismayed coming out of infinity war I really don’t know what word to use after sitting through a 3hr movie and witnessing the destruction of such a great marvel character occur before my eyes.
That scene where he grudgingly smashed the top of the car and barely tossed the motorcycle. WOW!!! Horrible. So Hulk now is a lover, not a fighter? Ridiculous! And finally to witness an epic battle scene versus Thanos where a significant amount of heroes took a shot at him and there is NO HULK AND THANOS SHOWDOWN!!!! What in the fucks, fuck is that all about? How does that not happen??? Pure and unadulterated fuckery is what it is.
Even in the comicbook world as Professor Hulk, he never shied away from a confrontation. Never. Hulk deserved a better sendoff. He deserved to finish with a bang! He was done in dirty. There is no better way to say it.

PS: the fact that his snap using the gauntlet brought everyone back does nothing to appease me. Nothing. Noone will be able to convince me this was the proper storyline for this iconic hero.

Sunday morning coffee with a little musing: Captain Meh-val

Posted on Updated on

When it was first announced that we’d be getting a Captain Marvel movie starring Brie Larson I was very excited. Today, I really don’t know why. Growing up I never followed Ms Marvel nor prior to this movie had I watched any movie starring Brie Larson and I know she has a long list of accomplishments.

I don’t let any reviews or opinions sway me from going to watch a movie. Having said that the negative tweets leading up to the movie admittedly got me worried. However I made it a point of not reading the actual article attached to the tweets.

As I do all the time, i went to see captain marvel the first weekend it was released. To my surprise, the cinema was half empty. It could have been due to the time of day but still. There really isn’t much to say. The hype machine was definitely working overtime for this movie. I came out of the movie feeling kinda meh about it. It had some moments but for the most it is underwhelming. And honestly I could care less who the lead is.

Two of my favorite super heroes are Hulk and Spawn. Both Todd McFarlane and Ang Lee brilliant in their own right but those movies. What. In. The. Hell. Am I right? And to boot I am getting an uneasy feeling already about the next #Spawn movie.

After watching Captain Marvel I made it a point of watching youtube reviews and it’s crazy how much hate there is toward this movie and Brie Larson. By both men and women. There’s no doubt Brie shot herself in the foot with those ‘white men’ comments. She also tried to play down and even come across like she couldn’t remember exactly what she had said during an interview with a white man who literally mansplained to her how it was all overblown. That must have gone over well with Brie. Lol.
Anyway, everyone has an opinion and some I agree with, some I don’t. That’s how it works.
It was made clear from the get-go that this movie is a feminist movie but as a female reviewer put it, it wasn’t necessary to dumb down the men just to get the point across. And yes, there are some scenes where I just rolled my eyes. On the flip side, these same scenes were critiqued by a male reviewer as terrible because ‘what man would say that?’… uh, I don’t know what hole this guy is living in.

There are a couple things that irk me heading into endgame. Endgame should be about the original avengers but the timing of Captain Marvel makes me think that she’ll come in and be the answer to everything. The other thing is that annoying bit at the end of Captain Marvel that leads you to believe that the avengers initiative started with Carol ‘Avenger’ Danvers… bullshit.

I would love to see Hulk pull the stunt he did with Thor but on Captain Marvel just to bring her down to earth a little. ๐Ÿ˜

Sunday morning coffee with a little musing: Bill Maher, oh no you didn’t .

Posted on

Like everyone else I know Bill Maher from his tv commentaries. He comes across as a guy that likes to make noise. Says stuff for the shock value. Sure, there have been times when I have agreed with him but boy oh boy do I disagree with him now. Although he recently said that his initial attack on comic book culture was not a swipe at Stan Lee… Ummm, yes it was. I cannot believe the audacity of this man to try to take down the legacy of a man that just died by being so ignorant. Proof of his ignorance comes in the form of his claim that suggested comic book creator Stan Lee was partially responsible for Donald Trump becoming President.

He followed that up by writing

Deep, deep mourning for a man who inspired millions to, I donโ€™t know, watch a movie, I guess.

So ignorant.

Bill Maher knows nothing about comic books and its culture and so should not be writing about it.

I grew up reading comicbooks and I have no pblm admitting that I am one of the ‘dumb’ grown ups Bill refers to who still reads them. Many, many years ago I was introduced to the world of comic books by a friend whose brother was into reading comic books. And I will never forget that day simply because of the sheer amount of books he had. I was literally a kid in a candy store.
Growing up, comics allowed me to escape to a world of super heroes. It was a fantastic journey of imagination. It’s not just about art, fantasy. There are life lessons in these books. It’s about right and wrong, acceptance, inclusion. It’s about understanding the consequences of the choices you make. It’s about morals and so much more. Literally the opposite of what Donald Trump represents. So, really. Who’s the dumb one here.
Everyone is entitled to their opinion but if you’re going to comment on something try to atleast know the subject matter. I’m sure Bill never picked up a comic book in his life. Like everything else this will soon pass but it doesn’t change the fact Bill is ignorant on this matter.

Sunday morning coffee with a little musing:#Netflix #Marvel trending downward

Posted on Updated on

So why was Iron Fist and Luke Cage cancelled? And why is Daredevil season 3 viewership trending downward? Hmm, I don’t know. Maybe try giving the marvel fans what they want. What about stronger storylines?

Luke Cage

Let’s start with Luke Cage. Season one for the most part was boring as hell. Season two got better but mostly because of Mariah and Bushmaster. This is a personal thing so I don’t want to generalize but there were many times when I didn’t understand a word that came out of Bushmaster’s mouth. It didn’t matter that I would rewind and blast the volume. I just couldn’t understand a word. Very frustrating. It’s like when Ur better half is talking in their sleep and mumbling and then u can’t sleep out of frustration because you’re trying to figure out what was said. As for the two seasons, both pretty much had the same storyline. Revenge, gangs, mob bosses, power, control.

Sweet Christmas.

Iron Fist

I don’t even know where to begin. The acting in season one was horrible. The fight sequences were choreographed more than dancing with the stars;ie horrible. You literally could have a drinking game for every time Danny said ‘I am the iron fist’. I actually lost count. And how do u suppose they solved that problem in season 2? Well they had Danny’s brother say that over and over instead. Holy Jesus. And speaking of season 2. How long does it take a person to ‘find themselves’? I’ll tell you how long. For Danny it took two seasons and a post credit scene at the end of season 2 to finally find himself. Atleast I think. We’ll never know because the series got cancelled. Now apart from this nonsense what was the most glaring thing missing from the two seasons? Anyone? Bueller? Bueller? I’ll tell you. Iron Fist donning his full fledged costume. That’s what. We got to see a couple flashback scenes where Danny and his brother were wearing the mask and that’s about it. . And you know why we never got to see the costume? Danny was too busy ‘finding’ himself.

Daredevil (season 3)

Here’s another guy that had to find himself. I don’t get it. We get to see bullseye in the Daredevil suit and not Matt. Instead we get Matt going around in that black getup and at one point late in the season rope wrapped around his hands. I guess the rope was his secret weapon to taking down Kingpin? And as is the case with Luke Cage. More of the same.. Sure we have bullseye but the main antagonist is still the Kingpin. And by the way I can’t picture anyone else other than d’Onofrio playing this role. He’s great at it.

On a side note. I know that we’re supposed to check ‘reality’ at the door when watching these shows but the amount of punishment DareDevil is able to endure is not humanly possible. The same actually goes for the Punisher.

@Marvel #infinitywar: forget Waldo, where the F**K was #Hulk?

Posted on Updated on

Alright. I have waited a week but now it’s time to vent.. So potential spoilers on the way. I think the post title says it all. Literally if you blinked you missed the Hulk in Infinity War. He may have been on screen for about a minute and I think I am being generous.

This was me after the movie and although the ending was all sorts of WTF… I was also disturbed and disappointed with how the Hulk character was handled.

For 2hrs19mins and 30 secs or so I was wondering when I’d see the Hulk again. So here’s my take on this…

I am assuming the lack of screen time in infinity war has to do with the amount of screen time Hulk had in Ragnarok. What isn’t acceptable though is how little time he had. As well, how Hulk was treated.

The whole thing is messed up. So I am supposed to believe that because in those whopping 30secs he lost to Thanos that somehow Hulk was afraid to come out and ‘play’ again. On the one hand in Ragnarok we get to see a Hulk that is starting to talk although child like so.. It’s feasible to buy into him being scared to face Thanos again. On the other hand, the INCREDIBLE Hulk, a SUPER HERO, the mightiest of heroes is scared??? Say Whattttt?

Let’s get this straight… up to this point Hulk was able to take out the Abomination, handled Thor, was able and willing to take on the wolf and surtur in Ragnarok but now he refuses to take on Thanos because he ‘lost’ in a maybe 30sec encounter? BULLSHITTTTTT!!!! In the meantime the likes of all the other heroes, even Black widow and a teenaged spiderman take on Thanos and family without hesitation. So Hulk is painted in a cowards light? Unacceptable!!!

What I hope for is that in Avengers 4 Hulk is given a bigger role and that payback will be a bitch!!!!

@Marvel Black Panther: The Cat’s Meow.

Posted on Updated on

As is normally the case with #Marvel movies I go watch the weekend it opens. Black Panther was no different. I will keep this post spoiler free which means though that it won’t be too long a post.

The hype leading up to opening day was unbelievable. I mean social media was on ๐Ÿ”ฅ. My biggest worry was that the movie would not live up to the hype. In a way, for me, that was the case. Visually, this movie is stunning. The sights, scenery, colors are breathtaking. You actually get caught up in it. The storyline however is somewhat predictable. You basically have supporters to your cause, then you don’t, then you get support from an unexpected source in order to triumph. Nothing I haven’t seen before. It doesn’t mean I didn’t enjoy the movie but there was a small letdown.

By no means am I trying to jump on a bandwagon for the sake of it but the female characters in this movie is pure gold. From the guards to T’challa’s sister Shuri who in my opinion stole the movie. Letitia Wright is fantastic. A pure natural at it. Every scene she was in she stole. My guess is her stock will rise!!!

Finally, for the love of Jesus and all that is good in the world. Stay put and leave only after the credits are done. Anyone that leaves prior should be banned from future Marvel movies. You are clearly not a true fan. Lol. As is the case with every Marvel movie, there are two post credit scenes (or at the very least one). The second one gives you a little insight as to what’s coming next.

There you have it. My spoiler free thoughts on Black Panther.

3.5/5

#DCEU Justice League. So Much Injustice

Posted on

*good chance of spoilers*

I don’t even know where to begin. Honestly the people at DC need to pick up the phone and call the people at Marvel for some insight.

Unlike Marvel movies where I must go watch the weekend it comes out, I waited a few weeks before hitting up Justice League. Obviously it didn’t help that the reviews are not good. That however will never stop me.

Not one of the teasers leading up to the movie actually made it into the movie.

The scene with Bruce looking at a hologram of either Superman or Supergirl. Didn’t make it.

The scene with Alfred talking to someone and saying ‘You said youโ€™d come. Now, letโ€™s hope youโ€™re not too late.’ Didn’t make it.

The green ‘dot’ underneath the plane… possibly a green lantern. Didn’t make it.

Superman in the black suit. Didn’t make it.

So much disappointment.

And let’s talk about Steppenwolf. What the hell. Just a terrible effort on the cgi. Really bad. Can someone please get the Marvel experts on the phone? Thanos*cough*cough*. And what about that bang up job they did with Superman’s cgi. His mouth area was creepy as fuck. Let’s not even go there.

Speaking of Superman. My God that whole coming back from the dead was soooo underwhelming!!! Wow. What a letdown. At the end of BvS you saw dirt lifting off his coffin… I had chills at that moment. So much more could have been done with that but yet again the ball was dropped.

Aquaman was badass and delivered. The Flash, not so much. I don’t really like where they went with this character. I think they wanted to simulate the Flash of the cartoon series and in my opinion it fell short.

Cyborg … ok.. Nothing spectacular. Wonder Woman ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ˜€

I did find it interesting how Batman/Ben Affleck has created an out with some of the dialogue he had with Wonder Woman and her ‘being a leader’.

Anyway…. DC has a lot of work to do. I know there was soo much Hoopla over wonder woman and I too enjoyed it but it wasn’t anywhere near any of the Marvel movies.

@Marvel #Punisher: So Much Punishment…For Me.

Posted on Updated on

Omg, omg, omg and one more for good measure… O.M.G! Soooo much violence. I have watched all the previous #Netflix #Marvel series in either one sitting or over a couple days. Punisher took a couple weeks.

The amount of violence in this series is staggering. I am not one for violence and it was very difficult to watch through some of the scenes. It’s why you”ll never see me watch MMA. The last two episodes especially… wow.. I was doing the sign of the cross constantly.. And by the way… not a good idea having food during these ridiculously violent and gory scenes.

As for the series itself. It isn’t too bad. The storyline was decent. I sure despised the villains. We all know that we haven’t seen the last of Russo. After the first four episodes I was questioning the choice of Jon Bernthal for the role but as the series went on I realized that he’s perfect for the role. It’s incredible how much punishment he was able to take ๐Ÿ˜œ. Pretty unrealistic if you ask me but hey… he’s the punisher. He can take as much as he gives, I guess. His sidekick ‘micro’ is a fantastic sidekick. Loved him. I am looking forward to Punisher 2 but I’m ok if they take their sweet time.. Like nice and easy. I need to recover.

@Marvel #InHumans: My Joe Dirt Review

Posted on

I feel like I shouldn’t spend too much time on this review. It would just be inhuman ๐Ÿ˜œ. Obviously the reviews that came in prior to it airing were not good at all but that’s never stopped me before. I watched all eight episodes. It wasn’t as painful as I thought it would be but I did cringe alot during the eight episodes. I would be stunned if there is a second season. Stunned. The acting was for the most part horrible. I mean outside of Medusa I don’t know that anyone else stood out in a good way. And speaking of Medusa.. She’s all about the hair and even if the cgi was horrible, she loses her hair episode one and that’s that. Black Bolt for the most part had a frown for all eight episodes and there’s so much you can do with the sign language and he could have been repeating the same set of signs and I wouldn’t be the wiser. As for Maximus, so freaking annoying. And his beard was also so annoyingly distracting. Last and certainly last ๐Ÿ˜œ… The story line was weak. No substance at all and predictable. It also ended with a wimper. The only bright spot was Louise. She was a fun character and atleast added some comedy to an otherwise drab series.

2/5 stars (because I have a good โ™ฅ).
